Laser Therapy

Multiwave Locked System (MLS) Laser Therapy

Laser therapy uses light to help accelerate the body’s natural healing process.

As the laser is moved over the skin, the light energy penetrates the tissue where it interacts with various molecules that help promote regeneration. This can often help reduce pain without surgery.

Other treatment options may provide some temporary pain relief, but they do not get to the source of the pain and promote healing. To do that it’s necessary to repair damaged cells. Laser therapy is one option that provides both healing and pain relief for many patients. Pain Management Center of Houston includes a Class IV laser called Multi-wave Locked System (MLS), as one element of pain management.

What is MLS Laser Therapy?

Class IV MLS laser therapy, is a relatively new treatment for chronic pain conditions. The procedure is called laser therapy because the laser used is low in intensity, meaning it doesn’t heat up the body when used. When the laser is applied to the treatment area, affected tissues absorb the light. This causes blood to rush to the treatment area, which promotes healing of damaged cells. MLS laser therapy stimulates all cell types including muscle, ligament, cartilage, and nerves. This is what makes it an effective treatment for many different painful conditions.

Conditions Treated with MLS Laser Therapy

Many treatments for chronic pain are focused on relieving the symptoms rather than treating the source of pain.

MLS cold laser therapy can be used as a treatment for:

  • Inflammation – laser therapy helps activate the lymphatic drainage system which drains swollen areas
  • Back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Neck pain
  • Knee pain

Benefits of MLS Laser Therapy Treatment

  • Reduces pain
  • Help accelerate tissue repair and cell growth
  • Improves nerve function
  • Reduces inflammation and bruising
  • Stimulates acupuncture and muscle trigger points
